Mystical, seductive jazz

The Orangery

Off with a bang!

The first Mundo Monday of the season kicks off with Debre Damo Dining Orchestra, offering up a punch to the gut of Ethio-jazz. The six-man orchestra incorporates the sound of 1970s Ethiopia into their own world, creating a sound that is both seductive and dangerous. With an acerbic, uncanny approach, their music is based on the exotic Ethiopian pentatonic scales, creating a foggy, psychedelic sound with distorted melodies and wild improvisations on organ and saxophone. You'll have to work hard to stand still, and we recommend that you give in to the swaying rhythms and dance until you drop at this spring party with an African mood.
