In these relatively few years, the orchestra has attracted unusually many international soloists and conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Martha Argerich, András Schiff, Lang, Vladimir Ashkenazy – and now also winner of two Gramophone Awards, Steven Osborne.

Steven Osborne is one of England's most sought-after pianists because he has developed his very own unique balance of exquisite technique, musicality and virtuoso interpretations. His debut at The BBC Proms in 1998 was with precisely this Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 – and he has since graced the programme no fewer than 13 times! His live performances are famous for captivating the audience: "There was barely a fidget or a cough. Nothing disturbed the concentration. The whole experience was a kind of enchantment."
